While all of you startups out there n-dimensional space are preparing your N100 applications, I wanted to report that we were in the Valley this week helping launch the Renfrew edition of N100. I can tell you Eastern Ontario is on fire with tech and talent.
I really enjoyed this opportunity to work with our friends in Renfrew County to help startups competing in the inaugural year of Eastern Ontario’s RC100 $100,000 startup competition. As always, working in tandem with Leo Mui and Rich McAloney from the Impact Centre is an absolute blast, and I was honoured to join Chris Thompson, Co-Owner of Whitewater Brewing Company in Cobden, Ontario, Dan Stevens from BDC and Mike Thompson from Renfrew County Community Futures Development Corporation, as a judge for the pitch simulation.

It is quite hard to distill your investment proposal down to a three-minute verbal pitch (the N100/RC100 format). This is a deliberate challenge and also a useful exercise for entrepreneurs. They pulled it off with true flare. And so you will want to be at the Festival Hall Theatre – Centre for the Arts in Pembroke on June 19th at 6:30 PM to hear these pitches, if you can, from some truly exciting up-and-coming technology startups: from solar architecture and design to circular carbon, from eco-tourism to talent discovery, from decentralized power management to sound systems, software, vertical farming, data storage optimization and more.
Thank you to Algonquin College’s Waterfront Campus for hosting the mayhem (we appreciate your hospitality and support). Also special thanks to David Lotimer from MBM Law for the IP lunch and learn workshop, to Stephane Levesque and Ross Fitzpatrick from SRB Technologies Canada Inc. for spending time mentoring and supporting the startups, to Chela Breckon, Entrepreneur In Residence at Algonquin College, Kirk Dobbs, Emina Veletanlic from the Impact Centre and IC startup mentors Arjun Mali from iMerciv Inc. and Mark Elias from Steadiwear Inc. and to all of the entrepreneurs competing in RC100: your energy, passion and dedication is simply inspiring.
There is an entrepreneurial shift happening in Eastern Ontario and we’re glad to be a part of it. Let’s fan these flames.
See you soon for RC100 Pitch Night!
