This summer, Venture13 worked with VentureKids Canada and Northeastern University – Toronto to launch an all new program for rural youth: TECHimmersivE connected young people from our community with the Toronto tech sector (including leadership at Microsoft Canada and LinkedIn) and provided experiential learning in coding, technology and entrepreneurship. Youth participants even had the chance to meet with the Consul-General of the United States in Toronto, Greg Stanford.
How did it all begin? A tweet from Sarah Stockdale (CEO of Valkerie) at our FedDev Ontario N1M Innovation in Action Day at Venture13… MPP for Northumberland-Peterborough South David Piccini meeting with Northeastern University Toronto’s Aliza Lakhani… the leadership of homegrown talent, writer, public speaker and tech columnist Takara Small, Founder of VentureKids Canada and Keynote Speaker at Venture13’s one-year anniversary earlier this Spring (read the article in BetaKit)… by working together we seized the opportunity to launch this initiative to accelerate change for underserved rural communities.
Thank you to Elizabeth McIelwain, Lauren Reid and the team at the Town of Cobourg, the volunteers, and all who supported the launch of TECHimmersivE (including the Cobourg Police Service and all of our sponsors) and we look forward to bringing you more metro-rural linkages through TECHimmersivE in 2020 and beyond.
